Edith Blanche Stephens, born on August 22, 1944, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on February 1, 2026, in her beloved hometown. Her life was marked by an unwavering love for family and a spirit that brought warmth to those around her.
Edith grew up in the Perkins, Tryon, and Stillwater area, where she cultivated a deep appreciation for family gatherings. She was a cherished aunt to many nieces and nephews, always taking the time to connect with them and share joyful moments. Edith had a remarkable passion for life that shone through in her interests. She found joy in doing crossword puzzles, engaging in spirited games of cards and dice, and immersing herself in western films, and spending time at the casinos with her cousin Marie. Additionally, her faith was an integral part of her life; she found solace and strength in attending church services with her family and took great delight in reading the Bible.
She is survived by her daughters, Barbara Poteet and Penny Stephens, who carry forward her loving legacy. Edith’s connection to her family extended beyond her immediate relatives, encompassing many nieces and nephews who will fondly remember the special times shared with her. She is also survived by her adored fur babies, Lola May and Rose Ann, who provided her with companionship and joy.
Edith is preceded in death by her parents, as well as her siblings, James Bates, Paul Bates, Marion Bates, Luke Bates, Betty Tinker, and Effie Gasaway. She also joins her grandparents in eternal rest. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those she touched, reminding us of the importance of family, love, and the simple joys of life.
