George Edward Pfleider Jr.

George Edward Pfleider, Jr., age 82, of Perry, OK was born on his parent"s farm near Lambert, Oklahoma. He passed away on October 13, 2010 at the Perry Memorial Hospital. He attended Mt. Zion School, grades 1 through 4. He then attended Dacoma Public Schools and was valedictorian of both his eighth grade and senior class. He belonged to the Dacoma 4-H club, and was shotkeeper for the basketball team. In 1950 he graduated from Northwestern State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Arts. He was a member of the Sigma Tau fraternity. In 1963 he graduated from Oklahoma State University with a Master of Science degree in Industrial Arts. He also did graduate work at Kansas State College of Pittsburgh, Wichita State University and Kansas State College of Emporia. He taught at Fairview High School, Tangier High School, Dacoma High School, and Arkansas City Middle School. He was awarded a certificate for 25 years of service in the Kansas Public Schools. George was a member of the Lions Club, Woods County School Masters Club, Kansas Teachers Association, Kansas National Education Association, and the Oklahoma Education Association. He served as secretary for the Arkansas City Teacher"s Credit Union. He was a member of Zeta Chapter of Iota Lambda Sigma, professional industrial education fraternity. Graveside services for George are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, October 16, 2010 at the Alva Cemetery with Chaplain Gene Owens officiating. Fir, Perry, OK 73077 George is survived by his sister, Lavona Niles and her husband Ben of Perry, a sister, Jane Hartwig and her husband Carl of Alva, Ok., four nieces, Vicki Ivester and her husband, Jack of Sayre, Oklahoma, Patti Graham of Plano, Texas, Michelle Mapes and her husband Jeff of Alva, Oklahoma, Sandra Smith and her husband Bob of Perry, Oklahoma, and three nephews, John Lee Walker, Jr. of Oklahoma City, Michael Hartwig, M.D., and his wife, Marsha of Perry, Oklahoma, and Jeff Linihan and his wife Louise of Edmond, Oklahoma, seven grand nieces, five grand nephews, 2 great-grand nephews and four great-grand nieces. He was preceded by his parents; George E. and Mildred E. (Wheatley) Pfleider. George was very creative. He loved making beautiful lamps, bowls, tables, anything from wood. After going blind he loved to recycle cups and jars into potpourri containers. He spent many hours making bird feeders, then donating them to various schools to be decorated by the children to be and used as gifts for their parents. He loved music and enjoyed singing. "Uncle George" will be greatly missed not only by his family, but by those who have cared for him at Perry Green Valley Nursing Home and Perry Memorial Hospital.
