Gerald “Gary” Raymond Wells, 75, longtime resident of Perry, Oklahoma went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, July 10, 2019 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Services have been entrusted to the care of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Perry.
Visitation will be Sunday, July 14, 2019 from 2PM to 6PM and Monday, July 15, 2019 from 9AM to 8PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home. Family will greet guests from 6PM to 8PM Monday. A Celebration of Gary’s life will be held on Tuesday, July 16, 2019 at 1PM at the First Christian Church in Perry. Pastor Joshua Bell will officiate. Interment will follow at I.O.O.F. cemetery in Ponca City with full military honors.
Gary was born July 30, 1943 in Ponca City, Oklahoma to Floyd and Thelma (McDaniel) Wells. He graduated Ponca City High School in 1962, and in August of that same year he married his high school sweetheart, Nancy McKnight on August 25, 1962 in Ponca City, Oklahoma.
Gary soon joined the United States Army National Guard where he devoted 42 years of full-time service in OKARNG and served several years at the Regional Training Institute. He received an honorable discharge and retired as Command Sergeant Major with the Oklahoma Army National Guard.
Since moving to Perry in 1972, Gary and Nancy have been devoted members of the First Christian Church in Perry where he enjoyed working with the JAG team remodeling the church and keeping everything in good repair. Gary was the “G” of the JAG! He also served as elder and deacon for many years.
Gary enjoyed music and loved playing guitar with his family and friends. He spent several years as Boy Scout Master for Troop 12 in Perry, OK. He had a passion for working with animals especially training quarter horses and later thoroughbreds for racing. He taught Nancy to appreciate western tv shows and they never missed watching Gunsmoke together every day. His favorite pets were Rusty and his son Gerry’s dog, Daisy.
Those left behind to cherish his memories include his wife of 57 years, Nancy; two sons, Michael Wells and wife Angie of Edmond, OK., and Gerry Wells and wife Carla of Perry, OK.; daughter, Cathy Troutz and husband Steve of Highland Village, TX.; two sisters, Shirley Seals and husband Don of Bixby, OK., and Diana Reaves and husband Dennis of Ponca City, OK.; grandchildren, Janette Farr of Stillwater, OK., Lyndee Wells and fiancé, Steven Maneth of Perry, OK., Garrit Snell of Edmond, OK., Courtney Wells of Perry, OK., Joshua Bryan, Matthew Bryan, and Jonathan Bryan all of Lewisville, TX., Kevin Troutz, Brian Troutz, and Charlotte Ziegel all of Texas; and twelve great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Vicki Wells.
