Stillwater, Oklahoma

Harold Ray Campbell passed into Heaven early Tuesday morning May 20, 2025, at the age of 98.

He was born on July 17, 1926, to Everett and Nola Campbell on their farm south of Stillwater. He was raised with his brother, Hollis Campbell and his two sisters, Helen Dale and Joan Shively.

Harold met his future wife Betty Jean Ridings as seniors in Stillwater High School. They were both the lead singers in the opera “The Pirates of Penzance.”

They continued using their God given musical talents throughout their lives. Harold sang tenor in many gospel quartets and led Sunday morning music every summer for many years in Red River, NM at the Red River Community House. Betty Jean was always his accompanist.

As a businessman, Harold owned Campbell’s Fine Shoes, downtown Stillwater and he worked in Real Estate most of his life.

Harold was a builder. He built Holly Lane apartments in Stillwater and many cabins in Red River, NM. He constructed a Chapel on their property where people from all over the world would come to pray or worship the Lord.

Harold was a giver. He would help anyone in need. He lived a life of giving to and serving others. He was always available to listen to others going through a tough time and his wisdom spoke through kindness and encouragement.

Harold loved people! As an usher at Lakeview Community Church, Stillwater, he would hand out many quarters each week to mostly the children as they came into the church. Due to this, his great-grandchildren called him PaPa Penny!

Harold was an accomplished artist, wood carver, clogger, and tennis player. He taught oil painting, wood carving, clogging, and tennis to his grandkids, and great grandkids and many others. As a young man, he was a great short-stop and enjoyed working with his grandsons on their baseball. He loved attending his grandkids games and recitals.

As a devoted husband, he and Betty Jean were married on August 10, 1947, at First Baptist Church, Stillwater. They were married for 77 years at the time of their deaths.

Betty Jean preceded him in death on April 6,2025. Theirs was a love story marriage.

As a devoted father, Harold is survived by son, Jim Campbell and his wife Beverly of Stillwater, and their children, Bryce Campbell, and his children Duke and Sofia all of Stillwater; and Scott Campbell and his wife Camey and their children are Callie, Cole, Cyah and Case all of Owasso; and Todd Campbell and his wife Autumn along with their children Peyton, Callen and Kendrie Campbell, all from Stillwater.

Harold’s daughter is Lynnette Campbell Chapman who is married to Dr. David Chapman of Norman, and their children, Josh and wife Hannah Chapman, and their children Jentezen and Jax all of Ardmore; and son Taylor and Adrianne Chapman, and their children, Abigail and Matthew all of Norman.

As a senior in Stillwater High, Harold asked Jesus to come into his heart and life at First Baptist Church, Stillwater. That decision set him on a course of raising Christian children and grandchildren and great grandchildren serving the Lord his entire life both at First Baptist Church and Lakeview Community Church, Stillwater.

His family and friends know him to have been a man of integrity, high Christian morals and values and a man who loved his family fiercely. The family will miss his hugs. They were the best!

Harold will be honored by family and friends on Tuesday, May 27th at 11:00 am as he is laid to rest next to Betty Jean at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Dr. David Chapman will officiate the graveside service.
