Janet Christine Benes, 61, born on December 21, 1964, in Stillwater, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully January 6, 2026, in Morrison, Oklahoma. Her journey through life was marked by a deep commitment to her community, a love for children, and a devotion to her family.
Raised in Morrison, Janet graduated from Morrison High School in 1983 before continuing her education at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in 1984. She pursued her passion for child development and earned a certificate from Meridian Technology in 2001 and 2002.
Janet was not only proud of her roots but also of her contribution to the community she cherished so much. Her service as a board member on the city council exemplified her dedication, as did her countless hours spent volunteering in various organizations, church activities, and school events. She took immense joy in being an active participant in her community, leaving a positive impact on all those around her.
Above all, Janet adored her family, particularly her six grandchildren: Kaid Shane Benes, Kein Donovan Benes, Kavin Edward Douglas Benes, Christine Kay Meeks, Sean Walter Pratt-Miller, and Carter Dewayne Pratt-Miller. They were her whole world, and each brought her immeasurable joy and pride.
Janet is survived by her children, Shane Donovan Benes and Shelby Danielle Meeks; her father, Edward Altman Benes; and her siblings, Catherine Jean Benes and Patti Colleen Swart. She was preceded in death by her mother, Patricia Ann Benes, as well as her paternal and maternal grandparents.
The legacy of Janet Christine Benes will forever remain in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her, marked by her unwavering spirit and boundless love for her family and community.
Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at 1:30pm at the Morrison Chirstian Church in Morrison.
