Joe Lordy Givan

Joe Lordy Givan Jr. was born on August 8, 1939, in Luther, Oklahoma, to Joe Givan Sr. and Laura Hardimon Givan. He left this earth on September 5, 2026. His parents later moved their family to Bakersfield, California, where Joe grew up and began building a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and kindness toward others.

Joe began his career with Continental Carbon/Conoco in Bakersfield and later worked for its subsidiary, Witco Chemical Company, as a laboratory manager. Through his dedication and several well earned promotions, he relocated with his family to Ponca City, Oklahoma, Dumas, Texas, and Phenix City, Alabama. Joe continued his remarkable career for 40 years. While working in Dumas, his team earned first place in the company's proficiency rating system, an accomplishment of which he was especially proud.

Joe shared 63 wonderful years with his beloved wife, Lillie Mae Givan (Jones). Together, they traveled extensively throughout the United States and to many different countries, creating wonderful memories together along the way. Following his retirement, Joe and Lillie moved to Padre Island. There, Joe enjoyed working on the pier and pursuing one of his greatest passions, fishing. He also loved playing golf and was proud to have achieved a hole in one. Joe and Lillie later moved to Stillwater, Oklahoma, to be closer to their two daughters and their families.

Joe was a loving husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great grandfather, caring brother, and loyal friend. He was funny and entertaining, and his wonderful sense of humor brought joy and laughter to those around him. He never met a stranger. His family is forever thankful that God blessed them with such a caring and wonderful father.

Joe was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lillie Mae Givan (Jones); his parents, Joe Givan Sr. and Laura Hardimon Givan; his brothers, Eric, Myron, and Clifford; and his sisters, Iva and Wanda.

He leaves to cherish his memory his daughters, LaJoy McCoy (Dale) and Cynthia Vick (Corkey), four grandsons, Dominic and Derek McCoy, and Joseph and Anthony Vick, his precious great granddaughter, Lillie McCoy, his sisters, Sederia and Debra, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.

Joe Givan will be deeply missed, but he will never be forgotten by all who knew and loved him.
