John Thomas Severe

John T. Severe of Stillwater, Oklahoma, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, June 6, 2026. John was born in Perry, Oklahoma on November 17, 1951 to the late Otto and Irma Nida Severe.

John was raised in Perry, Oklahoma, where he cherished his childhood friends and memories. During high school, John wrestled and was the drum major for the Perry High School marching band. After graduating from Perry High School in 1970, John attended Oklahoma State University, where he was a member of the Kappa Sigma fraternity and developed lifelong friendships. In 1974, John graduated from OSU with a Bachelor of Science in Pre-Law. After OSU, John attended Oklahoma City University and earned his Juris Doctorate degree. While attending OCU, he was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity and graduated 6th overall of 169 in his graduating class.

On December 29, 1973, John married Karen McCracken Severe of Stillwater at First Christian Church Stillwater. John and Karen moved to Stillwater in 1978 soon after John completed his education at OCU where they resided ever since. They had two kids, Melissa Severe Weber and John (J.T.) Severe III. John loved raising his kids and being Papa to his five grandchildren as well as spending time with his large extended family.

John was an attorney and counselor of law for over 47 years. He was admitted to practice Law in Oklahoma in October of 1978. For the majority of his professional career, he operated a private Law firm practicing criminal law, civil law, civil litigation, personal injury, family law and estate planning. At the beginning of his professional career, he served as the Stillwater City Attorney, Assistant District Attorney for Payne and Logan Counties, and Yale City Attorney. For his exceptional legal ability in serving his clients and top ethical standards, he was recognized as an AV Preeminent Rated Lawyer by Martindale-Hubbell.

Over his lifetime, he was an active member in the Stillwater community and region serving on the Stillwater United Way Board of Directors, Stillwater YMCA Board of Directors, Stillwater Life Center Board of Directors, Stillwater Wrestling Club, Valley Hope Association Advisory Board, Noon Lions Club, Salvation Army Advisory Board, and Perry High School Alumni Association Board of Directors.

John is remembered for being a loving husband, father, Papa, and for his genuine friendships. Throughout his life, he found strength in his faith in Jesus Christ and maintained a personal devotion to his faith. His family finds comfort in knowing he is in Heaven with his Lord Jesus Christ.

In addition to his parents, John was proceeded in his death by his two brothers, Donald Severe and LeRoy Severe, sister Norma Severe Vanbiber, and brother-in-law Russell Vanbiber Jr.

John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, daughter, son, son-in-law Jeff Weber, daughter-in-law Alicia Severe, and grandchildren Andrew Weber, Abigail Weber, Ruby Severe, Maci Severe, and John (Johnny) Severe IV.

We invite all who knew and loved John to join us in honoring his life. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 13th at 10:00 AM at Sunnybrook Christian Church 421 E Richmond Rd, Stillwater, OK. Burial will follow at Grace Hill Cemetery in Perry, OK. The family welcomes friends and family for visitation on Friday, June 12th from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home 5106 N. Washington Stillwater, OK.
