John Wesley Cook

March 29, 1918 — December 5, 2006

John Wesley Cook, 88 of Glencoe passed away Tuesday, December 5, 2006 at Resthaven Nursing Home in Cushing. Graveside services will be held on Friday, December 8, at 2:00pm at the Glencoe South (I.O.O.F.) Cemetery. Rev. Rusty Rhoads will officiate. The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home of Stillwater.
John was born March 29, 1918 to Clarence Earl and Artie Keller Cook in Perkins, Oklahoma and he grew up in the Stillwater area. He served in the Army during WWII with the Army 12th Cavalry. He was among the first group of troops to go ashore after the surrender of Japan. He was a rifle marksman and was presented the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one star. John married Crescilda Ellen Dorman on April 21, 1937 in Pawnee, Oklahoma. She passed away on August 13, 1975.
He worked on a dairy farm until going to work for the City of Stillwater Water Department where he worked as a meter reader until he retired. John enjoyed horseback riding and he trained and broke horses in his spare time
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Cresilda Cook, one son, Earl Ray Cook Sr., two sisters, Virginia Kelty of Jetmore, KS and Bertha Ann Vandeventer of Wichita, KS, three brothers, Phillip Cook of Ponca City, Oscar and Oliver Ernst formerly of Glencoe, two grandsons, Sammy Dale Cook of Perry and Steven Lee Nicholson of Stillwater, three great grandsons, James D. Wilson, David W. Wilson and Casey W. Nicholson all of Perkins.
Survivors include two daughters, Marge Moser and husband, Jim of Perkins and Alta M. Nicholson and husband C.W. of Glencoe, one son, John W. Cook Jr. and wife Irene of Florida, brother Dave Cook and wife Barbara of New York, grandchildren Ella Wilson and husband Jim of Wichita Falls, Texas, Mike Moser and wife Connie of Tryon, Carrie Moser of Stillwater, Richard Nicholson and wife Connie of Perkins, Roger Nicholson and wife Starla of Cushing, Kristy Burch and husband Marty of Morrison, Earl R. Cook Jr. and wife Jennifer of Stillwater, John W. Cook III Trey of Bentonville, Arkansas, seventeen great grandchildren, six great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Casket bearers will be Richard and Roger Nicholson, John W. Cook III, Earl Cook, Hank Moser, and Matt Parsel. C. W. Nicholson, Mike and Jim Moser are serving as honorary casket bearers.
