Karen Shaw was born on Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1946, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clay Rucker and Dorothy Rucker. Surrounded at home by her loving family, she went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, September 22, 2025. Her dad died when she was a young child and her mother married Vernon Sattler who raised Karen as his own.
Karen grew up in the Perry and Lucien communities, attended Hayward Public School, then in Perry schools for three years before graduating in 1964 from Covington High School where she attended her senior year. She continued her education at the Enid General School of Nursing and Enid Business College.
She married Jack Shaw February 8, 1969, at the Lucien United Methodist church. The couple established their first home in Odessa, Texas, where she was employed in the field of nursing. They moved back to Perry where she worked at Perry Memorial Hospital as a nurse. She then went to work at Charles Machine Works, Inc., from where she retired after 14 years of service. After that, she was gave private heath care for several people in her local community. She is the mother of two daughters: Angela Shaw and Amber Givens, both of Perry. She loved cooking, hummingbirds, dancing, playing cards with friends, traveling, going to the casino, but most of all her family. She was an active member of the Lucien United Methodist Church, now known as the Lucien Faith Church.
She is survived by her daughters: Angela and her significant other Anthony Bourland, and Amber and her husband Chad, of Perry, and stepson, Justin Shaw, Huntsville, Alabama; grandchildren: Skylar Ingram Smith and husband Jeff, and Aspyn Bourland, Perry; Eric Givens and his wife, Jayden, Tryon, Oklahoma, Cadence Givens, Stillwater; and great grandchildren, Ruger Ingram and Zinley Smith; and her siblings: Rhonda Hanyka and Tammy Beier; and five nieces, seven great nephews and four great nieces.
She was preceded in death by her biological dad, Clay Rucker; her parents, Dorothy and Vernon Sattler; and her husband Jack Shaw.
A public visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, September 26 at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel. Celebration of her Life will be held beginning at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025, at the Lucien Faith Church, under the direction of Dighton-Marler Funeral Home. She will be laid to rest with her husband Jack at a private family gathering at McGuire Cemetery in Lucien, Oklahoma.
