Nancy Joan Orr

January 20, 1938 — November 2, 2022

Nancy Joan Orr, 84, of Perkins, Oklahoma went to be with our Lord on November 2, 2022. Nancy passed peacefully in her sleep in Stroud, Oklahoma. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday, November 12 at the First United Methodist Church of Perkins. Pastor Charles Durant will be officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to Dighton-Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater.


Nancy was born on January 20, 1938, in Hyannis, Massachusetts to Robert C. Russell and Felice Russell. She attended school in Hudson, Mass and went to Hudson High School until after her freshman year, where she was a Rainbow Girl and a Rainbow officer. After her freshman year of High School, Nancy moved to Arlington, Texas where she attended and graduated from Arlington High School.


Upon graduation, Nancy attended Texas Christian University in Ft. Worth, TX. There, she received her Bachelor of Science degree in nursing. Upon graduating, Nancy became an RN and started working as a school nurse in Arlington. While at TCU, Nancy met and fell in love with David Lee Orr. They were married in the chapel at Texas Christian University. Upon her death, David and Nancy had been married for 61 beautiful years. During their marriage, David, Nancy, and their two children lived in Arlington, TX. Edmond, OK, Woodward, OK, Midland TX, and Perkins, OK.


Everyone who knew Nancy spoke of her smile. She never met a stranger and greeted everyone with a hug. She was an avid reader and loved anything to do with the arts. She enjoyed woodworking, painting and volunteering in the Woodward Arts Theater. She loved history, and in particular, New England history. Her laughter was contagious and would brighten a room. She loved her family, her friends, and her dogs beyond measure.


Nancy was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Perkins. She volunteered for the church food pantry and served on the Edu-Care board.


Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Robert C and Felice Russell.


Nancy is survived by her husband, David L. Orr, of the home; two children, Russell L. Orr and wife Brunetta of Woodward, OK and Barbara Jones of Perkins, OK; 6 grandchildren, Jordan Orr of Richwood, TX, Hunter Jones, of Lenexa, KS, Seth Johnson, Celestia Ramey, Cierra Mota, and Sidney Evers, all of Woodward, OK; and 10 great grandkids. She is survived by her brother, Robert “Bob” C Russell and wife Fran of Wichita Falls, TX ; two nephews, Clifton Russell of Archer City, TX and Richard Russell of Arlington, TX; and one niece, Laura Miley, husband John , and son Dane of Lakeway, TX.


The family will have a Visitation at the Dighton-Marler Funeral Home Chapel on Friday, November 11 from 4:00 to 8:00pm. The family will be in attendance from 6:00 to 8:00pm. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Perkins First United Methodist Church on Saturday, November 12 at 11:30am. All are welcome.


In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in Nancy’s name, to the Perkins Animal Shelter or to the Stillwater Humane Society.


Thank you to all of Nancy’s family and friends who have made her life such a beautiful journey. As Nancy would say, “Never leave home without your lipstick.”
