Richard Joseph Weis
March 12, 1938 – December 30, 2025
God welcomed Richard Joseph Weis into eternal life in Heaven on December 30, 2025 at the age of 87.
Dick was born on March 12, 1938 in Montreal, Canada to Edward and Kathryn Weis. He later grew up in Brooklyn, NY where the foundation of his lifelong work ethic, discipline and faith were formed. After graduating from Archbishop Stepinac High School in 1956, he went on to complete his higher education at Kings College. A proud American, Dick served his country in the United States Army, including service during the Korean Conflict.
Dick met the love of his life, Donna, on a blind date in Washington, DC in the fall of 1961 while he was stationed there with the Army. They dated seriously for about a year before life took them in different directions when Donna transferred with her work for the Department of the Navy to San Francisco, CA. Remarkably, the two lost contact for five years. As fate would have it, they reconnected, and Dick and Donna were married on September 17, 1966 in Blossburg, PA at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Their marriage was a testament to faith, commitment and enduring love.
Dick and Donna spent their early married years raising their young family in West Haverstraw, NY before Dick's professional career led them to Columbia, MO in the summer of 1979. Four years later, the family relocated again to Stillwater, OK where Dick continued his work until his retirement from Oklahoma State University in 2009. Throughout his career, including positions at institutions such as Albertus Magnus High School, the University of Missouri and Oklahoma State University, Dick was deeply committed to education, mentorship and service.
Second only to his fervent Catholic beliefs and faith in God, Dick was a loyal husband and devoted father. His family was the center of his world. He also found great joy in golf, fishing, gardening, reading, travel and maintaining a disciplined approach to health and fitness. Known for his wisdom and steady presence, Dick was a father figure to countless track and cross-country athletes from around the world, many of whom remained lifelong friends.
Dick is survived by his four children, Catherine Fagan and husband, Daren, Richard Joseph Weis, Jr. and wife, Kristin, Raymond Weis and wife, Lisa, and Elizabeth Nelson and husband, Christopher; six grandsons, Zachary and Luke Fagan, Jakob, Ryan and Garrett Weis, and Samuel Nelson; two brothers, Gregory Weis and wife, Nancy, and Gerard Weis and wife Caro, along with many extended family members and friends who will forever treasure his memory.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and brother, Edward Weis, Jr. and sister-in-law, Mary Lou.
Dick's life was marked by faith, integrity, service and love. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the family he cherished, and the values he modeled every day.
Dick’s viewing will be open from 4-8 p.m., Wednesday, January 7th, 2026 at Dighton Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater (5106 N Washington St.). Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 8th, 2026 at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Stillwater (711 N Country Club Rd).
