Rick McSwain, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and dedicated community leader, passed away peacefully on December 3, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born in Pond Creek, Oklahoma, on June 13, 1944, to Joe and Glorene McSwain, Rick spent his early years in Pond Creek before moving to Morrison in 1955. He was a proud graduate of Morrison High School in 1962.
Rick began his lifelong career in banking at 18, working for Dwight Rymer at Citizens State Bank. His professional life was honorably interrupted when he was drafted in 1966. He graduated from Officer Candidate School as a Second Lieutenant and was stationed near Baumholder, Germany, during the Vietnam War era. Serving as an S-4 and Assistant Battalion Commander, he was promoted to First Lieutenant after 13 months. At the end of his distinguished service, he was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service.
Upon returning home, Rick attended Central State University while working as an assistant cashier at Fidelity Bank in Oklahoma City. It was while studying Biology that he met the love of his life. He often joked that he wasn't cheating on his exams but checking to make sure Jan's answers were correct! He married Janis Adams of Altus, Oklahoma, on January 21, 1970.
In 1973, Rick, Jan, and their two children, Kim and David, returned to Morrison to work at Citizens State Bank. The family's deep commitment to the community was sealed when the McSwains purchased the bank in 1994. They successfully grew the institution, adding two branch banks in Stillwater, Oklahoma, before selling the bank in 2012. Rick always credited their success to the great employees they worked with and felt fortunate that the Rymer family entrusted the bank to them.
Throughout his 49-year banking career, Rick was a passionate advocate for community institutions, serving two terms as President of the Community Bankers Association of Oklahoma. He was an active and tireless member of the Lions Club and the American Legion, where he tirelessly organized projects and auctions.
Rick had a deep love for developing property and held a real estate license for over 50 years. He was instrumental in developing several additions in Morrison, including Prairie Hills, Rolling Hills, Le Place, and Morrison Heights, as well as other development projects across Noble and Payne Counties. He loved promoting Morrison and was driven by a genuine desire to help people. Rick often reflected on his life, hoping to leave a positive legacy and striving to help people lead better lives.
Rick truly knew how to enjoy life. He loved organizing group trips to Las Vegas for friends and customers, and he appreciated Crown Royal and a good restaurant. Rick and Jan shared an extraordinary passion for travel, having visited New York City over 30 times. Together, they explored almost every state in the U.S. and several foreign countries, including Italy, Switzerland, Germany, and France. A highlight of their adventures was a two-week stay with Jane Goodall at her Chimpanzee Sanctuary in the Republic of Congo.
Rick's simple, heartfelt advice to his family and friends was: "Live every day, work hard, play harder, and enjoy life." He was profoundly grateful to his family and friends for their support in achieving his success and, though he never took the time, always intended to write a book about his life's adventures.
In his final years, Rick devoted himself to being Jan's full-time caregiver, a testament to his deep commitment. Rick's memory will be forever cherished by his loving wife of 55 years, Jan McSwain.
He is survived by his daughter, Kim Hansen, and her husband, Kyle, of Morrison; son, David McSwain, Stillwater; grandchildren: Morgan Hansen, Tulsa; Zac Hansen of Oklahoma City; and Nathan and Ian McSwain, Stillwater; brother, Dr. Larry McSwain, and his wife, Sue, of Scottsdale, AZ; nieces and nephews: Laura Lanford, Michael McSwain, Shaye Michaels, Dr. Sayer Monroe, and Nancy Bowling, along with other beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Glorene McSwain; his sister, Sharon Monroe; her husband, Dr. Patrick Monroe; and his cousin, Dan Bowling.
A public viewing will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday, December 7 at the Dighton-Marler Funeral Home chapel in Perry with the family viewing form 2 to 4 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, December 8 at the First Christian Church in Morrison. Burial will follow in the Morrison Cemetery. Condolences may be made to the family via an online guestbook at www.dightonmarler.com.
The family kindly requests that donations be made in Rick's memory to the Morrison Community Development Association, Post Office Box 101, Morrison, OK 73061, to continue his legacy of building a better community.
