Robert Ira Hesser was born December 31st, 1933, in Yale, Oklahoma to Eliza Jane (Billie) Mendinghall and Ira John Swazy Gray Grewell. He was adopted later by Hugh (Candyman) and Kathryn Hesser. He passed peacefully at the age of 92 on March 3rd, 2026.
Robert, or Bob, as everyone knew him as, graduated from Glencoe High School in 1954, where he had met the love of his life, Bertha Mae Fisher.
Bob joined the US Army and served for 2 years before being honorably discharged into the US Army Reserves. While in the service he was deployed to Germany.
He and Bertha Mae Fisher were married May 8th, 1958. They had 3 children, Robyn (Hesser) German, Robert (Bobby) Hesser, and Dawn (Hesser) Lore.
Bob held many different jobs in his life. Starting out on the dairy farm with Hugh, retiring from the City of Stillwater. After retirement, he worked at Walmart in the maintenance department. He spent his later years working on his farm with his cattle.
Bob and Bertha enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and camping with fellow Church of Christ members. Bob was a devoted Christan and member of the Glencoe Church of Christ. Bob was a regular coffee drinker at Ross’ Station in Glencoe as often as possible. He was sure to have his roll of dimes handy.
He is survived by 1 sister, Karen Esteson of Enid, Oklahoma. His 4 Grandchildren, Shad German, Candace German, Cody German, and Carter Drevs, 7 Great-grandchildren, Kensley, Mason, Whitely, Clayton, Emili, Michael, and Maeva and 1 Great-Great-Granddaughter, Aurelia, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as friends and neighbors. His orneriness and smile will be missed by many who knew him.
He was greeted at the gates of Heaven by his wife Bertha and their son, Robert (Bobby) Hugh. As well as brothers Raymond and Jack, and sisters Joann and Evelyn. His parents, Hugh, Kathryn Hesser, Ira Grewell and Eliza Jane (Billie) Justice, and many other family and friends.
Services have been entrusted to Dighton Marler Funeral Home in Stillwater. A viewing will be held Thursday, March 19th, 2026, from 10am to 8pm with family greeting guests from 5pm to 7pm. His memorial service will be Friday, March 20th, 2026, at 10:30am with Pastor Curt Anderson officiating, with a family meal to follow at the Glencoe Church of Christ.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to the Glencoe Church of Christ in care of Dighton Marler Funeral Home, 5106 N. Washington. Stillwater, OK 74075.
