Stephen Faynard Price

Stephen F. Price passed away peacefully on June 2, 2026, at the age of 96. Steve was born on March 10, 1930 to Stephen Henry and Katie Golia (Hopp) Price in Glencoe, Oklahoma. Steve spent much of his childhood helping his father on the family farm and delivering rural mail. He formed many lifelong friendships and shared countless adventures—and a fair amount of mischief. Steve often joked that he graduated third in his class at Glencoe High School—out of three students!

After graduation, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Air Force alongside several friends. Following basic training, he was stationed at Sheppard Air Force Base. One of his duties involved tracking pilots' flight hours, which often allowed him to hitch rides and see parts of the country he might never have otherwise visited.

During his military service, Steve became smitten with fellow Glencoe graduate Opal Crank. Opal initially thought Steve was "a conceited smart aleck," but he was persistent. After nearly four years of courtship, Opal finally agreed to marry him, and they were wed on July 31, 1952.

Following his military service, Steve accepted a position with Mobil Oil in Drumright, Oklahoma. In fact, the job offer arrived during his wedding celebration, and he began work the very next day. A long career with Mobil Oil took Steve and Opal from Oklahoma to New Mexico and eventually Texas. Over 35 years, Steve advanced from Accountant to Materials Supervisor for New Mexico and South Texas.

Soon they were blessed with two daughters, Deborah and Terrie. Steve and Opal had a passion for travel and established a non-negotiable family tradition, an annual two-week family vacation. Summers were spent camping in a small trailer at state and national parks, often joined by relatives and close friends. Those trips instilled in their daughters a love of adventure, the outdoors, and nature that would last a lifetime. After retiring from Mobil Oil, Steve and Opal moved back to Glencoe and continued their travels, often by motorcycle, eventually visiting 48 of the 50 states.

Steve was mischievous and loved a good prank. He delighted in bantering with people just to get a reaction and passed many of his tricks on to his grandchildren. (Thankfully, pay phones no longer exist.) He was a man of many talents which included woodworking, auto mechanics, sewing, plumbing, electrical work, square dancing and tennis! Beneath his sometimes gruff exterior was a generous heart and a special compassion for those he considered underdogs.

Steve's wit, humor, and mischievous spirit will be deeply missed. His stories, laughter, and love live on in the hearts of those who knew him, and the memories he leaves behind will keep him with us always.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife Opal, daughter Terrie Hayes and husband Ronnie. He is survived by his daughter, Deborah Weissling and husband Dan; grandchildren Stephen Weissling (Leticia), Michael Weissling (Stevie), Lara Monte (Carlos), Allison Wagnon (Ross), and Tyler Hayes (Shandy); and 12 great-grandchildren.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to everyone who supported Steve in recent years—whether by visiting, helping with daily tasks, or keeping a watchful eye on him and reporting back to family. Your kindness meant more than words can express.

A memorial service will be held at the Glencoe Methodist Church, 113 S Perry Ave, Glencoe, OK 74032 on July 11 at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, you may either plant a tree or make a donation to your favorite state or national park in Steve's memory.
