Sylvia Bell Palmer

Sylvia Bell Barton Wyant-Palmer, age 90, of Muskogee, passed away on Monday, June 12th, 2006. She was born March 2nd, 1916 in Ketchum, Oklahoma to Ora W. and Bertha Lee Barton. She was formerly a resident of Wilburton, OK. and the state of Washington and had resided in Muskogee for the past 12 years. She retired from Wilcox Farms in Rainier, Washington in the mid 1970s.
During her years in Oklahoma, Sylvia spent many hours creating handmade quilts, designing and outfitting vintage and ethnic dolls. She also enjoyed fishing for bass, perch and catfish in various lakes and rivers around Oklahoma, launching her own boat and bank fishing. In her later years, she spent much of her time toiling in her flower gardens that were enjoyed by many Muskogee residents. Sylvia was also a member of the Cherokee Tribe.
Over the past 20 years, Sylvia and her sister, Myrtle, shopped, fished and took motor trips across the country with frequent stops visiting family in California, Colorado and Las Vegas where she always seemed to be one lucky lady at games of chance. She even named her van the Lucky Lady.
She is survived by one sister, Myrtle Renard of Muskogee; three sons, Robert R. Wyant and wife Delores of Aberdeen, Washington; Leon A. Wyant and wife Carolyn of Federal Way, Washington; Calvin D. Wyant and wife Roxanne of Auburn, Washington; two daughters, Stella Sue Srour of Muskogee and Shirley Carlson of Muskogee; two step-brothers, Lester Payne of Coweta, Oklahoma and James Monroe Payne of Sacramento, California; step-sisters, Faye Henson of Sulphur, OK., Charlotte Barton of Pueblo, CO. and Shrilda Wilson of Antlers, OK.; Daughters-in-law, Debbie Kinon of Oklahoma City and Constance Griffin of Soap Lake, Washington; 35 Grandchildren; 59 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; step mother, Etta Barton; husband, James Palmer; ex-husband, Earl Floyd Wyant; one brother, Henry Barton; three sons, Jerry Lee Wyant, Jimmy Earl Wyant and Larry Gene Wyant; one daughter, Betty Jo Ferguson and one step brother, Al Barton.
Graveside services will be held at Olivet Cemetery in Vinco, Oklahoma near Perkins, Oklahoma at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17th. Contact the funeral home for directions. Visitation will be held before the graveside at the funeral home from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The family has entrusted Palmer Marler Carberry Funeral Home with the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Francis Hospice, 1303 E. Broadway, Muskogee, OK.
