Vernon Thomas Whitehead, born on May 13, 1952, in Martinez, California, passed away on November 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy filled with love, devotion, and service. A dedicated father, husband, and proud veteran, Vernon exemplified strength in character and unwavering commitment to his family and country throughout his life.
He graduated from Alhambra High School in 1970 and subsequently devoted 21 years of his life to the United States Air Force, where he achieved the rank of E-7 Master Sergeant. His military service laid a foundation of discipline and duty that permeated every aspect of his life. After retiring, Vernon continued to serve his community by working as a security guard for Native Lights Casino, where he was known for his reliability and friendly demeanor.
On December 23, 1991, Vernon married the love of his life, Theda Rae (Thompson) Whitehead, in a beautiful ceremony at Eagles Nest Lodge in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Together, they created a warm and loving home that welcomed all. Vernon's love for family was evident in everything he did, as he embraced his blended family without hesitation. To him, all six children were his, and he cherished each one as his own.
Vernon had a profound love for cooking, fishing, and spending quality time with his family which brought him immense joy. His strong belief in God and deep relationship with the Lord shaped his life and the values he instilled in those around him. He was a man who truly understood the importance of family bonds, kindness, and faith.
Vernon is survived by his beloved wife, Theda Rae (Thompson) Whitehead, and a large family that includes Gerald and Danielle Sawyer, William and Melanie Whitehead, Margaret and Richard Kautz, James and Alysia Whitehead, Matthew and Bridgette Whitehead, Tauwnja and Samuel Enochs, Ellen Olivi, Nola Jow, Scharolette DeCaccia, Earl and Cecelia DeCaccia, Ashlee McGuire, Janell Kautz, Kiara Whitehead, Jordan Whitehead, Zachary Whitehead, Mikel Goodwin, Austin Whitehead, Aleena Whitehead, Nicholas Whitehead, Alyssa Whitehead, Brielle Whitehead, Markus Enochs, and six great-grandchildren, all of whom will remember him fondly and carry forward his legacy of love and integrity.
Vernon is preceded in death by his father and four grandparents, who undoubtedly continued to watch over him as he transitioned into eternity.
Visitation will be held on December 2, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 PM at the Stillwater - Dighton Marler Funeral Home, located at 5106 N Washington St, Stillwater, Oklahoma, 74075.
Vernon Thomas Whitehead will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege to know him. His spirit, dedicated service, and profound love for family will remain etched in the hearts of many forever.
