Violet Cecilia Amanda Macklin

A centenarian has left us.

Violet (Vi) Cecilia Amanda Busch Shiever Macklin was born in Cushing, Oklahoma on December 8, 1919, to Edward Andrew Busch and Thersa Mary (Trentmann) Busch. She died peacefully in her home on April 8, 2026, at the young age of 106. Violet was the youngest of thirteen siblings.

At an early age, the family moved to a farm near Ripley, Oklahoma that her father had homesteaded. At the age of five, the family then moved to a farm on the Payne and Noble County Line, nine miles north of Stillwater.

Violet started her schooling at East Long Branch in September 1926 and then attended Eureka High School.

Violet married Edward Adolph Shiever in 1938 and to this marriage one son was born, Edward Lawrence Shiever. In 1957 she married Harry Wayne Macklin and to this union, twins were born, Goldie Jane Macklin and Otis Wayne Macklin. Harry died in 1986.

Violet worked as a homemaker for many years also farming and raising cattle. Once moving from the farm to Stillwater, she worked as a food supervisor at the OSU Student Union for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1980. After retirement, Violet loved crafts, quilting, gardening, dancing, and cake decorating for friends and family. Neighborhood children and grandchildren alike could count on her delicious popcorn balls and banana nut bread.

Violet is survived by two sons, Edward L. Shiever and Wayne Macklin (Kay); nine grandchildren, Edward Mosier (Tamatha McCloud, OK; DeEtta Mosier (Charles) Shawnee, OK; Edward (Skip) Shiever (Charlotte) Newkirk, OK; Jeffery Lynn Shiever (Yolanda) Del Norte, CO; Stacie Shiever Grossardt (Daron) Blackwell, OK; Lisa Macklin Nelson (Douglas) Stillwater, OK; Angela Macklin Gamble (Bo) Stillwater, OK; Tracy Hesser Nordquist Stillwater, OK; Denise Hesser, Tulsa, OK, niece Barbara Ann Stafford Courtright Stillwater, OK; many grand-nieces and nephews; twenty great-grandchildren and ten great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding Violet in death were her parents, all twelve of her siblings, husband Harry, daughter Jane Macklin Mosier, son-in-law Howard Mosier, daughter-in-law Audrey Henderson Shiever, and one great-great-grandson, Weston Maddox Nelson.

Pallbearers will be Edward Mosier, Zachary Shiever, Beau Hendrickson, Daron Grossardt, Austin Grossardt, and Evan Grossardt.

A special appreciation and thank you is extended to her special friends Mary Jo and Marvin Shiever.

Viewing will be on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 12:00 to 8:00PM at Dighton-Marler Funeral Home, 5106 North Washington, Stillwater, OK.

Services will be Tuesday, April 21, 2026, at 2:00PM at Salem Lutheran Church, 101 South Duck Street, Stillwater, OK, Interment at Sunset Memorial Garden.
