Wilma Lucille Combs

April 6, 1937 — May 8, 2025

Stillwater, Oklahoma

Wilma Lucille Combs, a cherished soul and beloved matriarch, left this world on May 8, 2025, at her home in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Born on April 6, 1937, in Agra, Oklahoma, Wilma embodied a loving spirit that touched the lives of all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She graduated from Ripley High School in 1954 and soon after found her calling as a telephone operator for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Cushing, Oklahoma, where she began a career marked by her dedication and compassion.  During her career she and Franklin moved to Oklahoma City for a brief time and finally settled in Stillwater in 1963 where she remained until her passing.

After retiring in 1986, Wilma embraced her role as a farmer's wife, immersing herself in the joys of country life and the challenges of raising cattle. This phase of her life only deepened her roots in family, as she always prioritized her loved ones above all. Her laughter echoed through family gatherings, her caring nature evident in every interaction, and her great sense of humor brought smiles to faces young and old.  Wilma was a member of the Eden Chapel Methodist Church for many years where she enjoyed attending until her health began to fail her.  In her pastime she would enjoy a good romance novel.

Wilma's greatest treasures were her children and grandchildren. She loved nothing more than spending time with them, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Wilma is survived by her devoted daughter, Teresa Combs of Stillwater, Oklahoma; her son, David Combs (Amanda) also of Stillwater, Oklahoma; along with her grandchildren, Melissa Winkler (James), Cody Combs (Tiffany), and Kaitlyn Combs. The joy of her life continued to manifest in her great-grandchildren, Taylor Clanton (Jordan), Dakota Winkler, Blake Winkler, Brilee Combs, Whitlee Combs, and Case Combs, and the delight of her great-great-grandchildren, Maverick and Maddox Clanton; and her niece, Kim White (DeWayne) of Pawnee, Oklahoma.

Wilma was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Butch and Lucille Vassar; her husband, Franklin Combs in 2020; her infant son, Michael Combs; her brother, Dennis Vassar; and her nephew, Wade Vassar. Though they are no longer present, the values and kindness imparted by these loved ones will forever resonate within the hearts of those she leaves behind.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a time of viewing at Dighton Marler Funeral Home of Stillwater on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM and a visitation with family from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM. A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Eden Chapel United Methodist Church in Perkins, Oklahoma, followed by interment at Tryon Cemetery at 3:30 PM.  Pallbearers will be David Combs, Cody Combs, Kenny Ellington, James Winkler, Dakota Winkler and Jordan Clanton.  Honorary pallbearers will be Blake Winkler and Case Combs.

Wilma Lucille Combs lived a life rich with love and laughter, forever leaving an indelible mark on the hearts of her family. She will be deeply missed but her legacy of devotion and joy will surely shine bright in the stories shared and the memories cherished by those she loved most.
